The annual vignette for 2025 will be valid from Sunday, December 1. Road users should bear in mind a few things. Some cost traps lurk.
The digital and adhesive vignette sales have already started in the past few days. Both variants will be valid until January 2026, beginning Sunday, 1 December. The vignette will break the 100-euro mark for the first time in history. Specifically, the sea-green beauty in the full-year car version costs 103.80 euros this time.
Drivers must consider a few things before attaching the (adhesive) vignette to their vehicle. Ensure it is clearly visible on the left-hand edge of the windshield or behind the rear-view mirror. It is not advisable to affix the vignette to the edge of the tint. The mistake of throwing away the proof of purchase should also be avoided. This is the only way to apply for a replacement vignette in case of a broken windshield or total loss. Otherwise, you will have to buy a new one.
Of course, buyers of a digital vignette do not have this problem. However, according to the ÖAMTC, there are also some sources of error here. The data should be checked carefully before being entered into the system. “Errors when registering the license plate can lead to an expensive replacement toll claim,” warns ÖAMTC lawyer Ursula Zelenka.
“However, subsequent corrections are possible—and necessary, for example, if the license plate number changes due to a change of residence.” If this is the case, you must contact ASFINAG immediately—the cost of a change is 18 euros.
